Long, short, in white or bold colors, with neckline or plunging neckline, in lace, with tulle or applications.

The wedding and ceremony dresses created by our students from the Pattern Cutting course stopped the traffic. We interviewed Professor Helena Quinan, from the Modeling course, who closely followed the students' work in the Moulage module.

01. Concluding the Pattern Cutting course with such a demanding Moulage module means raising the bar for learning?

It definitely raises the level of practical learning. It is of utmost importance to know how to work with different sensitive materials used in wedding dresses, as well as to master bust pattern cutting. These skills provide a clear understanding of planned modeling, as well as enabling the creation of custom, high-quality dresses for special occasions such as a wedding.

02. What was the process applied in the Moulage of the wedding or ceremony dress?

The process begins with the costing of materials; students must make a budget. Then they move on to the selection of the dress shape, bust pattern cutting (moulage), preparation of the patterns, cutting of the pieces in fabric, machine making, and the process is completed with the final finishing touches (lace, lining, among other details applied by hand).

Commitment and dedication at a technical and aesthetic level.

03. How do you describe the performance and feeling of the female students?

The students demonstrated great commitment and dedication, both technically and aesthetically/conceptually. It was important for the students to visualize new ways of representing and realizing dress pattern cutting. This provided a broadening of creative horizons and made it possible to explore innovative approaches to creating unique pieces. The result was a remarkable performance, reflecting the students' growth and improvement throughout the course.

Explore new creative possibilities.

04. Is developing a wedding dress the ultimate skill of a pattern maker?

If it were not for this specific challenge of creating a wedding dress model, some students might not have expressed their intention to do so. However, it is important to point out that this project goes beyond the wedding dress itself. It is a piece that requires advanced sewing and pattern cutting techniques, which is proposed in this course. The goal is to enable students to develop their skills and explore new creative possibilities, regardless of the type of garment they choose to create in the future. With hard work and dedication, everyone is capable of learning and achieving remarkable results.

Dedication, patience, and perseverance towards professional excellence.

Pattern Cutting is a profession that demands sacrifices and continuous study. It is a field that demands dedication, patience, and perseverance to achieve professional excellence. Every step of the process, whether it is understanding pattern cutting techniques, mastering sewing skills, or exploring new creative approaches, plays an important role in the journey to excellence. It is through this commitment and the constant search for improvement that a high level of professionalism in patternmaking can be achieved.

The dresses reflect experimentation and individual expression.

05. How did the female students respond to creative freedom?

There was a great diversity of styles, colors and materials in the projects developed by the students. This creative freedom was a fundamental aspect of the course. They had the opportunity to choose any material used in wedding dresses, allowing for experimentation and individual expression in their creations. In addition, the students also had the choice of developing a ceremony dress or a wedding dress, further expanding the creative possibilities. This freedom allowed each student to develop a unique and authentic design, reflecting her aesthetic preferences and artistic vision.
