How can a needle make a difference? The workshop we held in partnership with Groz-Beckertprovided the answer. LSD's Lisbon and Porto auditoriums welcomed curious and interested students from the Fashion Design and Pattern Cutting courses.
Technical knowledge of the needle will enhance the performance of the final article.
Rui Santos, Sales Area Manager at Groz-Beckert, a long-standing company in the industrial needle business, shared in a practical and interactive way, over two hours, the importance of a value-added needle.
Let's remember one obvious fact: the needle is one of the main parts of a sewing machine, whether domestic or industrial, without it the machine could never sew. Therefore, the greater the basic technical knowledge about needles, the better the handling of the machine, the materials, the result, and the safety of the final product.
A value-added needle guarantees sewing safety.
Basic technical knowledge of the product, whether sewing machines, needles or threads, will always enhance the performance of the finished article. The sensitivity of a machine operator in selecting a value-added needle ensures safety in the sewing process.
What are needles?
What types of needles exist? How should a needle be observed? What types of shapes, points and points? How to select the systems? What are special application needles? How to choose a needle according to the coating? These were some of the questions clarified by Rui Santos, accompanied by a practical demonstration, which invited students to test with the support of José Bernardino, from Costura Urbana, a company that sells and provides technical assistance to sewing machines.
Students value contact with in their professional training.
Let us recall another piece of evidence: the task of the needle is to pierce the materials to be sewn, joining the pieces together. And there is still no technique that replaces sewing in this art of joining materials. Therefore, it is essential for anyone working in the field of fashion and operating machines to update their basic technical knowledge about needles.

"Great workshop. Thoughtful lecturer. I suggest more actions like this, about fabrics, threads and sewing machine maintenance."
"It was a very useful training, very well explained and very important for our profisisonal area."
This workshop is part of the extra-curricular offer that is part of the Program of all courses. It is optional, but it is always an added value in terms of knowledge acquisition, networking, contact with the industry, contests, among others. See more events and initiatives of this scope here.
