Interior Design

Marta Teixeira Pinto

The practical application in projects with realistic briefs and the theoretical foundations of the Interior Design course won over Marta Teixeira Pinto. The alumni highlights the enriching experience in a collaborative environment with classmates and teachers, and the workshops with companies in the field that amplified learning and networking. The passion with which she recounts her journey is contagious. Be inspired!

01. Why did you choose LSD and the Interior Design course?
I chose LSD because of its well-established reputation in the market and the recognition the institution has in training professionals in the field of interior design. When I researched the teaching staff, I was impressed by the experience and knowledge of the teachers, many of whom are active professionals in the industry, with projects of great relevance and interest, which guarantees teaching that is up to date and absolutely in line with market practices.
The choice of the Interior Design course was out of passion! And some influence, I confess! I've always been passionate about architecture, the arts and creating spaces that are functional, provide well-being and reflect the identity of those who occupy them. This passion was amplified by my travels, where I had the opportunity to explore different cultures, architectural styles and design solutions. Each place I visited contributed to a greater understanding of how interior design can transform spaces, adapting to local needs and cultural context.
It was at LSD, and more specifically on the Interior Design course, that I saw the perfect opportunity to develop the key skills that will enable me to create aesthetically pleasing, but also innovative and sustainable environments, in line with the global design trends that inspire me so much. The practical approach of the course, combined with a comprehensive program that covers everything from theoretical foundations to application in real projects, was very appealing to me. I believe that practice is essential for the formation of a complete designer. Finally, the influence came from my husband, who is an architect and has incredible projects!

02. How was your experience on the course? Share a memorable moment.
My experience on the Interior Design course was deeply enriching, both in terms of technical and personal development. Throughout the course, I had the opportunity to explore and apply theoretical concepts in practical projects, consolidated my knowledge and gained confidence as a designer. The collaborative environment with classmates and teachers was a great stimulus for the exchange of ideas and continuous growth. The workshops with suppliers, organized exclusively for LSD students, are also moments of enormous learning for the future.
One moment that particularly marked me was the development of the "Douro Boutique Home" project. It was a challenge to transform the client's ideas and needs into a functional, familiar, sophisticated and luxurious space, within the constraints of budget and space. I remember spending nights perfecting various details, from the choice of colors to the selection of materials, always looking for a balance between creativity and functionality.
The whole experience, from creating the client-type, to "marketing" the project, developing moodboards and concept boards, sourcing materials and finishes, choosing furniture.... It was all incredibly rewarding! This experience consolidated my passion for the area and gave me the certainty that I'm on the right path, ready to face new challenges and grow a lot as a professional.

03. What has changed in your life? What are you currently doing?
I'm self-employed. I'm working on some commercial and residential projects in partnership with architectural firms.

04. What advice would you give to anyone wishing to sign up for an LSD course?
In the creative field, originality is what really makes the difference. Don't be afraid to explore your most daring ideas and develop your own style, even if it's different from what's in vogue.
In addition, curiosity is essential. Never shy away from learning and drawing inspiration from different sources, be they other areas of knowledge, cultures or life experiences. Creativity is nourished by a diversity of references and the constant desire to discover something new. Travel, read, observe the world around you with attentive eyes, and always look for new ways to express your vision.
Finally, be prepared for challenges: the path won't always be easy, but passion for what you do will be your greatest ally.
